Playtest – Cycle Three (Notes and Data)

Six different people where used for playtesting the game from this cycle. The first three were people who have experience in the field and were able to critique the game. The last three were people from the target audience (the persona of Sam, the 12 year old), so that more accurate results could come directly from where the game is being aimed at. The questionnaire results are listed here.

Playtest 1 – Expert

How did you feel about the problem solving aspects of the game?

They were interesting but limited

 

Did you feel engaged by the problems that arose throughout the level/s?

I did but they were easy to overcome


Were you ever bored by the layout of the level/s in the game?

Mostly just towards the end


How did you feel about the difficulty?

It was pretty easy


What sort of ambience did the game have?

It felt like it was set in a jungle and ruins


What emotions did you feel when playing the game?

I felt enjoyment when I completed the game


Was the game engaging?

Relatively so


Did you experience any glitches or find mechanics that didn’t work?

No


Would you add anything to the game to improve it?

Just more content

 

Playtest 2 – Expert

How did you feel about the problem solving aspects of the game?

They were well placed and thought out


Did you feel engaged by the problems that arose throughout the level/s?

Yes I did

 

Were you ever bored by the layout of the level/s in the game?

No, I found them pretty engaging

 

How did you feel about the difficulty?

It had a good balance

 

What sort of ambience did the game have?

A very fantasy like ambience

 

What emotions did you feel when playing the game?

A mixture of determination and enjoyment

Yes it was

 

Did you experience any glitches or find mechanics that didn’t work?

No I don’t think so

Playtest 3 – Expert

How did you feel about the problem solving aspects of the game?

The first level was good but the second level had a difficult point that could have been better designed.

 

Did you feel engaged by the problems that arose throughout the level/s?

I found the levels engaging

 

Were you ever bored by the layout of the level/s in the game?

No, I was constantly engaged by some form of problem

 

How did you feel about the difficulty?

The first level was relatively easy but the second level had some difficult aspects

 

What sort of ambience did the game have?

It felt very remote and isolated

 

What emotions did you feel when playing the game?

I was frustrated when I was momentarily stuck but I mostly enjoyed the experience

Yes I found that I was constantly engaged by the levels

 

Did you experience any glitches or find mechanics that didn’t work?

I don’t believe so

 

Would you add anything to the game to improve it?

A larger variety of problems

It was pretty easy

Not really

They were really short

It was easy

A tropical jungle

I enjoyed it

I got stuck and it was really hard

Fantasy
